Nymchat Press Kit and Brand Assets

Last Updated: August 24th, 2026

Here you will find the Nymchat brand assets, the guidelines for using them, and what you need to know about permission. Nymchat Brand Assets means the Nymchat word mark, the Nymchat wordmark and app icon, and the other artwork and design elements associated with Nymchat.

The app itself is free software under the AGPL-3.0 and you can do a great deal with it. The trademarks are separate from the code, and the guidelines below are about those.

Writing about Nymchat? The press kit has the boilerplate, the fast facts, the screenshots and the launch announcement.

Press kit

Everything a story about Nymchat needs in one place: the boilerplate, the facts worth checking against, the assets, and the announcement itself. Journalism, reviews and commentary need no permission from us — take what you need.

Boilerplate

Three lengths, cleared for use exactly as written. If you would rather write your own, everything in them is sourced from the knowledge base.

One line

Nymchat is a free, open source encrypted messenger with no accounts, and a Bluetooth mesh that keeps it working when the internet does not.

Short

Nymchat is a free, open source messenger built on Nostr, an open protocol nobody owns. There is no account and no phone number: an identity is a keypair generated on the device. Private messages and group chats are end-to-end encrypted, and a Bluetooth mesh carries messages between nearby phones with no internet, no cell service and no infrastructure at all.

Full

Nymchat — also written NYM, for Nostr Ynstant Messenger — is a free, open source messenger built on Nostr, an open protocol nobody owns. There is no account and no registration: an identity is a keypair generated on the device. Private messages and group chats are end-to-end encrypted and gift-wrapped so that relays can neither read them nor tell who sent them, with hybrid post-quantum encryption between Nymchat users. A Bluetooth mesh carries messages with no internet at all. Nymchat runs as a web app and as native Android and iOS apps, is licensed under the AGPL-3.0, and is developed by 21 Million LLC. Decentralized. Pseudonymous. Unstoppable.

The five things worth knowing

What we do not claim

These belong in an accurate story as much as the rest, and the comparison against thirteen other messengers says where they are stronger:

Screenshots and video

Every screenshot below is a real capture of the running app, and every one of them is free to use in coverage of Nymchat. The wordmark, app icon and social card are in Brand assets above.

The announcement

The launch announcement is published in full, in every language this site is published in: Nymchat launches a messenger that keeps working when the internet does not. It is free to quote.

Press contact

Interviews, review builds, fact checks and anything else: write to support@nymchat.app. Technical questions are usually answered faster by the knowledge base, which is written against the app's source rather than its marketing copy.

Tip

There is no review account to hand out, because there are no accounts. Open web.nymchat.app, pick a nym, and you are in — that is the whole sign-up.

Brand assets

Nymchat trademarks

These are the marks owned by 21 Million LLC:

MarkWhat it names
NymchatThe app, in all its forms.
NymbotThe AI assistant built into the app.
Not ours

Nostr is an open protocol and nobody's trademark. Bitchat is a separate project with its own owners; Nymchat is compatible with it, not affiliated with it. Bitcoin and Lightning are likewise not ours, and the app store names belong to their respective companies. Nothing on this page grants or restricts anything about them.

Usage guidelines

General

Referring to Nymchat

Spell and capitalize the marks exactly as they are written above. Use them as adjectives, not as nouns or verbs, and never in a way that suggests a generic or descriptive meaning.

Using the wordmark

Use the official wordmark from this page. Do not alter it in any way other than scaling it proportionally.

Clear space

Keep a clear space around the wordmark of at least half its height on every side. Nothing else — text, borders, other logos — belongs inside it.

The Nymchat wordmark inside a dashed boundary, with the clear space on each side marked as half the wordmark's height.
Clear space: half the wordmark's height, on every side.

Minimum size

The wordmark and the icon are built out of small glyphs, and below a certain size they stop being legible and start being noise. Never render the app icon smaller than 48 px, and never render the wordmark narrower than 240 px.

The Nymchat app icon shown at 96, 48 and 24 pixels, with 24 pixels marked as too small.
48 px is the floor for the icon. Below it, the glyphs stop reading.

What not to do

Three crossed-out examples of the Nymchat wordmark: stretched horizontally, rotated, and recolored orange.
Do not stretch, rotate, recolor, outline, add effects to, or otherwise redraw the wordmark.

Using the Nymchat brand in media

You may not use the Nymchat wordmark, icon or app imagery in a film, television program, book, play or other visual media without explicit written permission. To ask, write to support@nymchat.app and we will review the request.

Ordinary journalism, reviews and commentary about Nymchat do not need permission. Use the assets from this page, and do not imply that we endorsed what you wrote.

Colors

The palette has a dark and a light form. The values below are the dark ones; the light-mode equivalents are in the site's stylesheet.

Typography

Nymchat is a terminal by inheritance, and the type follows from that.

The mobile apps bundle Roboto for the interface and Noto Sans as a broad fallback, so glyphs the primary face lacks still render rather than turning into empty boxes. Color emoji are left to the operating system's own font.

Using the Nymchat source code

Nymchat is licensed under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0, and we are glad to see people build on it. The license sets the terms: among them, if you run a modified version as a network service, you must offer its source to the people using it.

The license covers the code. It does not grant any right to the trademarks. If you run your own build, make it clear that you own and operate your service and that it is not Nymchat, and do not use the Nymchat name, wordmark or icon as the identity of your service, product or application. You are welcome to state factually that it is based on Nymchat's source.

Tip

The app can prove which build it is running, and a byte-identical copy served from another domain says so plainly rather than passing itself off as the official app. See Verifying the build.

Legal

The Nymchat Brand Assets are owned by 21 Million LLC and may only be used as set out in these guidelines, or with explicit written permission.

You may not use, or otherwise claim rights in, any Nymchat Brand Asset, including as or as part of any trademark, service mark, company name, trade name, username, social media handle or domain registration. You may not claim rights in any intellectual property that is confusingly similar to the Nymchat Brand Assets, including as or as any part of a trademark or trade dress.

Do not use the Nymchat Brand Assets for anything misleading, defamatory, infringing or illegal, or anything otherwise inconsistent with the Terms of Service.

We may revoke permission to use the Nymchat Brand Assets at any time, and 21 Million LLC reserves the right to withhold approval of content it considers inconsistent with the Nymchat brand.

Questions about any of this, or requests for permission, go to support@nymchat.app.
