Nymchat Press Kit and Brand Assets

Here you will find the Nymchat brand assets, the guidelines for using them, and what you need to know about permission. Nymchat Brand Assets means the Nymchat word mark, the Nymchat wordmark and app icon, and the other artwork and design elements associated with Nymchat.

The app itself is free software under the AGPL-3.0 and you can do a great deal with it. The trademarks are separate from the code, and the guidelines below are about those.

The five things worth knowing

• It works with no internet. Messages hop phone to phone over Bluetooth LE, up to seven hops, with each pair of devices running its own encrypted session. Of the fourteen messengers in our own comparison, Nymchat is the only complete one — encrypted group chats, calls, media and payments — that keeps moving messages when the network is gone. See Bluetooth mesh.
• Public rooms are places. A geohash channel turns any square on Earth into a room with no owner, no membership list and no invitation. The rooms are shared with Bitchat. See Channels.
• There is no account. No phone number, no email, no registration — and Ghost Mode rotates the keys, the nickname and the advertised Bluetooth name together, roughly every fifteen minutes. See Identity and login.
• The encryption is already post-quantum. Between Nymchat users, ML-KEM-768 runs alongside the classical exchange, so traffic recorded today is not readable by a future quantum computer. On Nostr, no other client ships this. See Quantum-resistant encryption.
• The build can be checked. The source is AGPL-3.0, the web build is reproducible, and the app verifies the files it is running against signed attestations in the repository. See Verifying the build.

What we do not claim

These belong in an accurate story as much as the rest, and the comparison against thirteen other messengers says where they are stronger:

• Nymchat has not had a third-party security audit. Briar, SimpleX, Signal, Element, Delta Chat and White Noise have. What Nymchat offers instead is open source and a reproducible build anyone can check.
• Public channels are not encrypted. That is the design, but anything posted to a channel is a plaintext event on public relays.
• An ephemeral nym is not an anonymity system. It hides an identity from other users, not an IP address from a relay operator, and Ghost Mode makes a device much harder to follow rather than untraceable.
• Peer-to-peer calls reveal an IP address to the other party. That is inherent to a direct connection, not something Nymchat adds.
• The mesh is best-effort. Bluetooth range, 512-byte frames, a seven-hop limit, no delivery guarantee. It is built for text.

Usage guidelines

General

• DO use the Nymchat trademarks to refer to Nymchat itself, or to products and services that genuinely work with it. A client that speaks the same protocol may say so.
• DO set the marks apart from the text around them — capitalize them, italicize them, quote them, or set them in a different face — so a reader can see where the name ends and your prose begins.
• DO use the assets from this page as they are, scaled proportionally.
• DON'T use a name, wordmark or icon confusingly similar to Nymchat's, for any purpose.
• DON'T use or register the Nymchat marks as, or as part of, social media account names, profiles, usernames or handles.
• DON'T combine the Nymchat assets, or any part of them, with another logo, company name or mark, or use them in any way that implies partnership with or endorsement by 21 Million LLC, without explicit written permission.
• DON'T describe your app or product as being "for Nymchat" when it is not built to work with Nymchat.
• DON'T put the Nymchat assets on merchandise — apparel, stickers, accessories, packaging — or otherwise monetize them, without explicit written permission.
• DON'T use the Nymchat marks in a domain name.

Referring to Nymchat

Spell and capitalize the marks exactly as they are written above. Use them as adjectives, not as nouns or verbs, and never in a way that suggests a generic or descriptive meaning.

• "Send a Nymchat."
• "Nymchat your friends."

Using the wordmark

Use the official wordmark from this page. Do not alter it in any way other than scaling it proportionally.

Clear space

Keep a clear space around the wordmark of at least half its height on every side. Nothing else — text, borders, other logos — belongs inside it.

Minimum size

The wordmark and the icon are built out of small glyphs, and below a certain size they stop being legible and start being noise. Never render the app icon smaller than 48 px, and never render the wordmark narrower than 240 px.

What not to do

Using the Nymchat brand in media

You may not use the Nymchat wordmark, icon or app imagery in a film, television program, book, play or other visual media without explicit written permission. To ask, write to support@nymchat.app and we will review the request.

Ordinary journalism, reviews and commentary about Nymchat do not need permission. Use the assets from this page, and do not imply that we endorsed what you wrote.

Colors

The palette has a dark and a light form. The values below are the dark ones; the light-mode equivalents are in the site's stylesheet.

Typography

Nymchat is a terminal by inheritance, and the type follows from that.

• Monospace — Courier New, Consolas, Monaco. The wordmark, headings, labels and anything that should read as a terminal.
• Sans-serif — the platform UI stack: SF Pro Display, Inter, Segoe UI, system-ui. Body copy and interface text.

The mobile apps bundle Roboto for the interface and Noto Sans as a broad fallback, so glyphs the primary face lacks still render rather than turning into empty boxes. Color emoji are left to the operating system's own font.

Using the Nymchat source code

Nymchat is licensed under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0, and we are glad to see people build on it. The license sets the terms: among them, if you run a modified version as a network service, you must offer its source to the people using it.

The license covers the code. It does not grant any right to the trademarks. If you run your own build, make it clear that you own and operate your service and that it is not Nymchat, and do not use the Nymchat name, wordmark or icon as the identity of your service, product or application. You are welcome to state factually that it is based on Nymchat's source.

Legal

The Nymchat Brand Assets are owned by 21 Million LLC and may only be used as set out in these guidelines, or with explicit written permission.

You may not use, or otherwise claim rights in, any Nymchat Brand Asset, including as or as part of any trademark, service mark, company name, trade name, username, social media handle or domain registration. You may not claim rights in any intellectual property that is confusingly similar to the Nymchat Brand Assets, including as or as any part of a trademark or trade dress.

Do not use the Nymchat Brand Assets for anything misleading, defamatory, infringing or illegal, or anything otherwise inconsistent with the Terms of Service.

We may revoke permission to use the Nymchat Brand Assets at any time, and 21 Million LLC reserves the right to withhold approval of content it considers inconsistent with the Nymchat brand.
